Online advice review site Adviser Ratings has formed a partnership with Google that will allow consumer ratings of financial advisers who have signed up with the platform to appear as Google ratings when users search for them online.

The company said the partnership made Adviser Ratings the first review site to be approved by Google and would allow consumers easy access to simple crowd-sourced reviews of individual advisers in the course of their online research.

Adviser Ratings managing director Angus Woods said the new initiative would provide a mutually beneficial arrangement for advisers and consumers.

“Advisers will have increased visibility of their achievements and a sizeable increase in click-through rates to their individual profiles,” Woods said.

“Research consistently indicates that more than 80 per cent of people trust online reviews as much as a recommendation through friends or family.”

He added that being able to quickly access Google ratings would cut down the time consumers spent on researching an adviser and allow them to quickly make a confident decision about whether to become a client.

The company said individual adviser ratings had gradually begun appearing on Google searches, with the process to be fully completed over the coming months.
