Consumer advice site Adviser Ratings has partnered with trading platform Small Business First in an exclusive referral scheme that will help give Australian small businesses access to professional advisers.

The deal will allow existing financial advisers on Adviser Ratings’ platform to expand their customer referral base by tapping into Small Business First’s network of 500,000 businesses.

Commenting on the announcement, Adviser Ratings managing director Angus Woods said bridging the advice gap and making financial planning more accessible to small business owners were key drivers behind the deal.

“Small business owners and their employees make up 70 per cent of the Australian workforce, making this a significant and healthy step in ensuring financial advice becomes more accessible for hard-working Australians,” Woods said.

He added the referral agreement would be an incentive for Adviser Ratings’ 23,000 existing members as well as those looking to join the platform.

“Not only a win for small businesses, the referral scheme also provides select Adviser Ratings advisers with a stream of new business opportunities within their local region [or] area,” he said.

Small Business First managing director Rajhev Rajkumar said giving small business owners access to advice was important given that one of the most significant challenges they faced was managing their finances.

“It can become stressful at times, which is why it’s critical for small businesses to think about financial planning from day one if they want to succeed in the long term and keep their staff happy,” Rajkumar said.

He said the two platforms would work well together given they were both dedicated to helping small business owners become successful.

“Their mission to drive trust and transparency in the financial sector makes them a strong platform to engage with as we look to offer greater financial services to our members,” he said.

The referral scheme would be implemented across the Adviser Ratings and Small Business First platforms from the start of next month.
