BT Investment Management (BTIM) has recruited the head of investment strategy for a major superannuation fund as its new head of multi-asset investments.

The investment manager said Michael Blayney, who was currently at First State Super, would start in the newly created role on 28 August.

Blayney has over 20 years of investment management experience and in his current role is responsible for establishing and overseeing an active asset allocation process, as well as leading First State Super’s investment strategy team.

Before joining First State Super, he was at Perpetual for five years as a portfolio manager and head of diversified strategies.

BTIM chief executive Michael Bargholz said Blayney’s career history made him an ideal fit for the role.

“Michael has a strong track record in building objective-based funds across multiple organisations and we are pleased to have attracted someone of his calibre and expertise,” Bargholz said in a statement.

Portfolio managers Stuart Eliot and Alan Polley would retain responsibility for managing BTIM’s $7.3 billion in multi-asset portfolios and would report to Blayney, the investment manager said.

“I am delighted to be joining such a highly regarded and successful investment management firm and I look forward to building on the group’s existing strong capabilities in multi-asset funds management,” Blayney said.
