Following Godfrey Pembroke general manager Sean Allen’s unexplained departure from the dealer group last month, financialobserver has learned that former employee of parent company National Australia Bank (NAB) Alan Logan has been appointed to the position.

NAB confirmed to financialobserver on Friday that Logan had been hired and would succeed Allen, who had been with the bank since 2013 following roles with ANZ Financial Planning, BT Financial Group, HSBC and Commonwealth Bank of Australia.

According to Logan’s LinkedIn profile, he was most recently engaged on a project assignment for BT Financial Group, specifically at BT Select.

Prior to that, he was appointed Peter Daly’s successor in 2012 at Australian Financial Services Group (AFS) which, together with a number of its entities, went into administration in 2013.

Earlier, Logan was director of private consultancy Bombora Advice, and from 2008 to 2011 was ANZ general manager of advice and distribution.

From 2001 to 2007 he was at NAB, first as state manager for MLC in Tasmania and Victoria, while later he became Apogee Financial Planning general manager and was also responsible for MLC practice management services across all licensees.

NAB said Godfrey Pembroke manager of strategic growth Shane Canton had been acting GM at Godfrey Pembroke during the recruitment process.

Meanwhile, Allen’s departure followed the recent exit of another NAB licensee executive, Apogee Financial Planning general manager Fiona Navarro, which financialobserver revealed in March.

A recruitment process for Navarro’s role was also under way during which a spokesperson said bank executive Jeff Munro would be acting general manager.

The reasons for the departures of Navarro and Allen have not been confirmed, however following the consolidation of licensee management at AMP, some have flagged a similar situation could come about at NAB, however that was only speculation at this point.

A spokesperson for the bank said further details regarding Logan’s appointment would be provided this week.
