Life insurer AIA Australia’s head of independent financial adviser (IFA) distribution will depart his role for a more senior position at the group’s head office in Hong Kong.

In a statement, AIA confirmed that current head of IFA distribution Sam Tremethick had been promoted to regional head of IFA for Asia, New Zealand and Australia.

Tremethick would be seconded to the Hong Kong office as of January 2018, where he would be responsible for driving the insurer’s IFA growth strategy across the Asia Pacific region, the insurer said.

AIA’s current head of strategic partnerships in Australia Kristen Lennis-Harvey would act in the head of IFA distribution role until a permanent replacement could be found.

AIA chief retail insurance officer Pia Sciarrone said she was thankful to both Lennis-Harvey and Tremethick for their contribution to the insurer’s success in the Australian market to date.

“Our aim is to have the right people in the right roles so we can work with our business partners and ultimately serve our clients in the best possible way,” she said.

“Kristen with her experience and passion will ensure that our IFA business partners will continue to receive the high level of support from AIA Australia they are used to getting.”

Lennis-Harvey joined the insurer in 2015 as head of strategic partnerships, and before this was national strategic account manager at Zurich Financial Services.
