Matthew Fogarty has been appointed the new general manager of National Australia Bank (NAB)-owned Garvan and MLC Financial Planning.

Financialobserver revealed in June that the group's former general manager James Meade had been promoted to head of partnerships development.

NAB said today Fogarty brings with him more than 20 years’ experience in the financial services industry, working with both advisers and advice practices.

He previously worked at AMP, where he was head of financial planning for ipac and Genesys.

Prior to that, he was a founding partner of the Encore Group, a specialist practice management consulting firm.

“There's a real sense of enthusiasm running through our business at the moment, and we are delighted someone of Matthew’s experience is joining the business," NAB Wealth Advice Partnerships general manager Ross Barnwell said.

“With more than 20 years' of industry experience, Matthew is perfectly placed to lead MLC Financial Planning and Garvan - two businesses dedicated to providing quality advice to help grow, manage and protect customers’ wealth.

“Our aim is to be the licensee partner of choice based on our ability to support our firms through better technology, practical customer insights, and a culture of innovation, and I have no doubt Matthew will strengthen that position.”

Fogarty will commence in the role on 24 August.
