IT consulting and solutions provider Your Technology Made Lite (YTML) is offering advisers accessibility to the fintech space through Highlighter, which assists with in-house solutions through Microsoft Excel.

Advisers can use their existing intellectual property to bring their technology solutions to market, the firm said.

“Highlighter automates the development of a web app,” YTML chief executive Kevin Liao said.

“As long as advisers have the flow of data entry organised, and they know the outputs they want, we can configure and upload it into Highlighter and convert it into a web app for them.”

Speaking to financialobserver, Liao said Highlighter could offered a number of benefits, ranging from adaptability to evolving regulatory and legislative compliance issues, delegation of hosting and cloud control, protection of intellectual property, and programming interface integration for external systems.

The company would continue to develop the product, he said.

“We believe Highlighter will be exciting and relevant to most players in the advice market, and this is because the major software providers in the industry do not have all the permutations of advice offers built into their solution,” Liao said.

“We aim to partner with SMEs [subject matter experts] to fill this significant gap.”

One challenge would be to build awareness and confidence in those financial services practices that had the skills to design fintech solutions but lacked the technological expertise or were put off by costs, which meant projects ended up on the back burner, he said.

“YTML wants to enable great advice in Australia – we want to help advisers deliver financial advice that wins the hearts and minds of all Australians,” he said.

“At the moment, the Australian financial industry needs a circuit breaker to enable advisers to provide more advice to more Australians [and] Highlighter is an example of a circuit breaker – it is bringing to life the great tools advisers are developing using Excel, but which are limited in this format.”

Advisers would appreciate flexible, adaptable technology solutions, he said, in line with YTML’s philosophy to make technology easier.

“Advisers, accountants and SMSF [self-managed super fund] specialists have so much capability sitting within their practices, and by partnering with technology solutions such as Highlighter, they can use it to funnel client traffic so they can focus on [the] relationship side.”
