Sunsuper has taken out this year’s fund and pension of the year award at the annual Lonsec and SuperRatings Fund of the Year awards.

SuperRatings chief executive Kirby Rappell said the awards were about recognising the superannuation and pension funds that have outperformed by going above and beyond in delivering value and securing the retirement objectives of their members.

“We look at a range of criteria when determining the winners, including investment performance and fees, member services, insurance, advice and fund governance,” Rappell said.

"To be nominated is a huge achievement in itself, and with such a wide field and depth of talent, every finalist should walk away very proud.”

Australian Ethical Super was bestowed the Fast Mover Award, with the Rising Star category being taken by Statewide Super.

Best New Innovation Award went to VicSuper Beeline, while QSuper took out Choice Super of the Year award.

Other winners included CareSuper, which took out MySuper of the Year and HESTA for Career Fund of the Year.

Meanwhile, the Bennelong Twenty20 Australian Equities Fund won Lonsec's Innovation Award while the Watermark Market Neutral Trust took out the research house's Rising Star Award.

The Disruptor of the Year Award was taken out by iShares Enhanced Strategic Model Portfolios, while Club Plus Super's Cash Option, OnePath Integra's Global Shares option and Catholic Super's Australian Shares product were among the winners for the SuperRatings SR50 Performance Awards.

The awards were announced at a gala dinner following the SuperRatings Day of Confrontation in Melbourne last week.
